Warrants in Snohomish County, Washington

In Snohomish County, Washington, if you have missed a court date, either for arraignment, pre-trial, confirmation, trial or a probation hearing (Failure to Comply – FTC), the chances are high that the court has issued a warrant for your arrest. Depending on several factors, including the severity of the offense and your criminal history, the warrant could be set for a dollar amount, be a “no bail” warrant, be “recallable” or be a “no-recall warrant.”
Getting rid of a warrant is technically called “quashing the warrant” but is often referred to as “squashing.”
Depending on the court and type of warrant that was issued, a warrant can be handled several ways:

Being caught by a police officer, arrested and booked into jail
Paying a bail bondsman a non-refundable amount (usually 10% of the warrant amount + $50)
Signing up at the courthouse for a “warrant recall calendar” (not always possible)
Hiring an attorney to take care of the warrant

A bail bondsman will usually take 10% of the bond amount as a fee for handling the warrant then take a security interest in collateral for the rest of the amount. A good example is taking your vehicle title, so if you do not show up to court, the bondsman gets your vehicle.
An attorney can oftentimes quash your warrant either by filing pleadings or scheduling a hearing.

Depending on the dollar amount of the warrant, hiring an attorney can often be a cheaper alternative to hiring a bondsman. Depending on the case, the attorney may also agree to handle the warrant as part of representing you in the case.
